Glynwood Benefit Picnic
You might hear the name Glynwood and think of a bucolic wedding venue tucked away in New York’s Hudson Valley, with rolling hillsides dotted by grazing animals, historic stone houses enveloped in vines, sweeping mountain views, and a gleaming lake. You would not be wrong.
But did you know they also have an agricultural nonprofit called The Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming? Their mission is to “ensure the Hudson Valley is a region defined by food, where farming thrives” and a more equitable and resilient food system is the norm. We are so inspired by the hard work they are doing to make a positive impact on our local community and greater world through farmer training, regenerative farming practices, food access and equity, and so much more.
Every year they host a benefit picnic, and this year they invited us to bring our handcrafted games (built by us right here in the Hudson Valley) for their guests to enjoy. We were thrilled! Please enjoy these absolutely gorgeous photos of this most perfect day by Mel Barlow (and be sure to check out her photography website here!).
“We advance local food production here in our region, as well as educate a national audience about efforts to regionalize food and agriculture. We are inspired by, and contribute to, aligned work far beyond the borders of the Hudson Valley. Guided by the highest standards of ecosystem, soil, animal and community well-being, we promote regenerative agriculture in service of our natural environment, local economies and human health.”

A picnic on the farm would not be complete without a pie contest, of course!
Celebrity foodies Mark Bittman, Kanchan Koya, and Mary Cleaver were the judges, naming the winner a lemon meringue entered by local nonprofit Second Chance Foods.
Second Chance Foods works to elevate the health of people and planet by recovering nutritious food before it goes to waste, and delivering it to the tables of hungry families in the Hudson Valley, NY.
Martha Elder, Executive Director of Second Chance Foods shared with Glynwood, ‘We believe that any food we prepare in our kitchen should be of a quality that we would be proud to serve in our own homes. One of our volunteers made the pie, and the love and care that she put into that pie is the same love and care she puts into creating a meal for a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, a food pantry etc. The eggs, lemons, butter, sugar, flour were all ingredients that might otherwise have been wasted, until they were donated to us. Often stores donate products because the packaging has flaws or damage, but the product itself is fine!‘
THANK YOU, GLYNWOOD, FOR INCLUDING OUR GAMES IN THE FESTIVITIES!
BIG LOVE to the amazing vendors that made this benefit picnic event so special:
