An Anniversary Party at the Saugerties Steamboat Co

We had our first soirée at the Saugerties Steamboat Company (sister property of the Diamond Mills Hotel) celebrating a wedding anniversary with a very fun group of folks last weekend. We couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect day.

The stone patio nestled between two historically landmarked buildings was seamlessly transformed into the ultimate gaming parlor complete with swooping string lights and cozy seating. Gentle breezes swept in from the dock where we spread out two sets of cornhole and antique wooden barrels as drink stands. Playing bags dockside in the sunshine is just about the best thing imaginable!

“Great fun for all! A perfect party ice breaker! Beautifully crafted games with a professional and friendly staff. Loved by people of all ages, from 2 to 90!!! So HAPPY we decided to have Upstate Jamboree at our celebration.”

— KATHY YOUNG, MOTHER OF THE BRIDE, SAUGERTIES STEAMBOAT CO.

We introduce our newest game rental, a life-sized Giant Chess Set with spalted maple trim and antique game pieces imported from Ukraine.

“Great local company for handmade wedding games! This turned out to be one of our guests’ favorite features at the event! They had a good range of activities— classics like cornhole and chess, to some different ones you might not have seen. The best part is that the folks who set up the games also stick around to show people how to play, so everybody can get the most out of it. Staff was very friendly, approachable, and got everybody from the young kids to grandparents on board with activities.“

— SYDNEY, BRIDE, SAUGERTIES STEAMBOAT CO

The versatile event space has a rustic Americana feel with exposed beams, brick and wide plank floors overlooking the quiet waters where the Esopus meets the Hudson River. Brides can make the most of the waterfront by opting for a dramatic boat arrival. Imagine that!!

The three-acre waterfront property boasts a rich history in which Saugerties played an integral role in the industrialization of the Hudson Valley.

The site was originally developed in 1830 when the Village of Saugerties obtained its own steamboat line, making a direct connection between Saugerties and New York City for the shipment and trading of goods like lumber, paper, bluestone and brick. The first steamboat on the line was the Ansonia, later named the Robert A. Snyder. The Vessel operated for 65 years as the central steamboat line between Saugerties and New York City, carrying both passengers and freight to and from the city.

Today the space has been faithfully restored as an elegant (and fun!) venue for dockside weddings and events.

“We had some guests who didn’t know many people get a lot of opportunities to socialize by playing the games, and family that hadn’t seen each other in a long time got to bond over some, too. Highly recommended all around!”

— ANDREW, GROOM, SAUGERTIES STEAMBOAT CO

Recently I began taking inventory of my life, recognizing the shifts I could make to lessen my personal consumption and impact. Since we spend a quarter of our lives working, that was certainly an area demanding attention. So I left retail and begin my career freelancing for small businesses whose higher purpose transcends profit.

I believe in employing my skills and energy to empower others working to create positive change in our world. I support too-swamped entrepreneurs by breathing life into their brands and websites, allowing them to focus on the important work at hand. At the same time, I get to nurture my own entrepreneurial spirit while being creative and building truly meaningful relationships throughout my community.

I strive to inform, delight and inspire by balancing content with design. I consider the details without losing sight of the big picture. I aim to see around corners while staying focused on the moment. I'm self directed but have over a decade of experience successfully working with teams. And while I've surely got bills to pay, I know it's my social responsibility to be selective about where I put my energy.
